A Brief Introduction

First, a word about the why's and wherefore's of my creating these pages.

This is homework generated for the Smartplanet Course: Intro to Digital Photography held February 26th through April 2nd, 2000. I will be posting up the results of my digital experimentation here. I will do my best to explain the parameters and problems of the pictures I post.

Should you have any questions about these pictures, please email me at soncat@earthlink.net, if you are not in my class.

Enjoy, and know that your comments are encouraged and appreciated.

A little about my equipment:Nikon CoolPix 800

I am using a Nikon CoolPix 800. This camera has ALOT of features. I can shoot in Auto mode, which handles focus, white balance, and allows optical and digital zoom up to 2.5x. Or I can shoot in Manual mode, which allows me to set contrast, focus, white balance, and metering. The camera produces four different resolutions: Basic, Normal, Fine, and Hi. Basic, Normal, and Fine are saved in jpg format and are accessible in Auto Mode. Hi is stored in tif format (no compression) and can only be accessed in Manual Mode. Except for the fact that this little guy can snack on batteries (when flash is used alot), I am in love with it.

It is so versatile, I have even taken pictures with it while riding my motorcycle. If you're curious about how they came out, check out these albums:

A little about my software:Graphics Created with Paint Shop Pro 7

The photo-editing software I use is Paint Shop Pro v7.0. This is a side effect of my having taking the Smartplanet Course: Create Web Graphics with Paint Shop Pro. I am very familiar with this program and prefer it to Adobe Photoshop because of that. It does pretty much the same stuff as the Photoshop, so I don't think I'm missing much.

Enough babbling, on with the course.
