Christmas - What About It?

I don't know about you, but I am not infected by the Christmas spirit this year. I personally think it brings out the VERY WORST in humans. Some people go about stragetizing on "What gift to give" to the family, the boss, etc, to accomplish their own not-so-hidden agendas. Alot of us sweat out what gifts to give, because last year we got something that we believe cost more than the something we gave. >Guilty< Others gather up their shreds of human compassion and splurge to allay their guilty consciences, so that they can start the new year sin-free.

It is not honest to give gifts to "match" the value of gifts we
get, or to enhance our own social/political status. It is also not in the "true spirit of Christmas" to show compassion on one day out of the year.

If you don't really care to give a gift, or you haven't a clue
what to give someone, then don't go into emotional overload to try to do it anyway. It will just cause you to resent the whole holiday thing. If you really want to give someone a gift anyway, what about writing in their Christmas card the three or four things you are grateful to them for, or things you appreciate about them? That's a gift that keeps on giving.

Besides, if Christmas is really something to believe in, shouldn't
we practice our generousity all year around? I mean, that's the lesson here, isn't it?

Okay, I admit, I have a less that glowing attitude about this.
But if I knew this was the last Christmas I would have, how would I conduct myself? Would I even think about Christmas the same way? I doubt it.

When I was a teenager, there was a poster that said "This is the
first day of the rest of your life!" But I think that poster had it backwards. It should have said "This is the last day of your life! Make each moment count for something."

There really is no past or future. Time is only our way of ordering
our memories. There is only now. Make each moment count, no matter what day it may be. Let each thought, feeling, and experience be meaningful. Because this could very well be the last day of your life. Would you want to spend it the way you are doing right now?
Oh, and by the way - Merry Christmas!
